Botulinum toxin in the Bawtry & Doncaster Area
Botox
Used in cosmetic procedures since the late 1980s, Botox is botulinum toxin, a protein produced by the bacteria Clostridium Botulinum. Botulinum Toxin Type A (BTX-A) is produced, purified and prepared by several companies for cosmetic use and is licenced for use in treating moderate to severe wrinkles between the eyebrows and axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). It is a prescription only Medicine and should only be used by a trained healthcare professional (Doctor or Nurse) and should NEVER be administered by a beauty therapist or someone not trained in its use.
BTX-A acts by specifically paralysing the muscles of facial expression, which allows softening of lines caused by excessive contraction of the muscles. Trained practitioners know the correct muscles to inject to relax them and soften lines and wrinkles. This helps restore a more youthful appearance.
Used properly it has a very good safety record, but in the hands of the untrained practitioner unwanted effects are common, simply because the injections are done into the wrong muscles and instead of improving your appearance you can end up with drooping eyelids, or eyebrows, or the famed 'scared rabbit' look.
Gaynor and I have always advocated a more subtle approach to botox, aiming to give good results, but not leaving people looking obviously 'botoxed'. Gratifyingly this approach seems to be becoming widely adopted and some of the celebrity and style magazines have had articles on the new way to treat with botox. We have been practicing this ever since we started and this is why we offer a top up included in our price, to ensure our clients achieve the look they want and aren't left having to pay extra for top up treatments.

- Merz, Xeomin and Bocouture
All of these are safe and reputable suppliers. They produce a high quality product and in the correct hands can give excellent results. There are differences in the way the products work and your practitioner should be able to discuss these with you.
There are however unofficial supplies of botox available on the internet or from untrained and unqualified people offering very cheap deals. Please do not use these. They are not safe and offer poor value for money, as well as putting you at risk of side effects and infections.
Treatment with Botox at a clinic may seem expensive, but you are paying for a diificult and expensive to produce product and for the expertise of your practitioner. They should be able to advise you what treatments may be available to get you the best result for your money. It is not just a case of doing a few injections, as practitioners who don't understand what they are doing will not be able to give good results and are much more likely to cause side effects.
